Do you like eating? Do you like hanging with friends? Would you like a little motivation to do those things together? Then Supper Club could be for you! We (Matt and Katrina) would like to invite you to open your hearts and homes to others this year, share some meals, and then gather at the end of the experiment to compare notes.
BASIC QUESTIONS
Why Supper Club?
We mostly just wanted to give ourselves – and you – the excuse we’ve all been needing to make that plan, get together, and share time with people you like, love, and want to know better. The big idea is to show up in person for each other, using a simple punch-card system. You certainly don't have to invite us, but we’d love to hear about your experiences throughout the year, and we’ll check in occasionally to see how it's going for everyone, and deliver some gifts and notes of encouragements along the way. We're also happy to lend a card table, folding chairs, or a punch bowl whenever you need them!
How do I join?
Simply tell Matt or Katrina that you're in, and we'll get you set up with a punch card and a welcome kit!
How do I participate?
Easy, you commit to hosting and attending meals with friends. The goal is to encourage deeper connections by hosting at least six times and attending at least six meals hosted by others within one year.
What is the timeline?
We’re kicking things off around March of 2026 and will roughly re-assemble in March of 2027.
What’s the deal with the punch cards?
When you join, you’ll receive a membership punch card as one of the SUP FAM, along with a uniquely-shaped stamp. Click over to the Punch Cards page to see how to use them!
DETAIL QUESTIONS
Does supper have to be at night?
No! Supper is only a placeholder here, it can be any meal — a pancake breakfast, a picnic, a cheese plate.
Must it be in person?
This one is a yes. The aim is to physically share space with others in an intimate setting, to be present in each other’s presence. If a special guest gets patched in from another state or continent, that could be a fun bonus, but not the main event.
Must I cook?
Not if you don’t want to. Hosting means gathering people together around food, but you don’t need a Michelin star to have people over. You can order in, you can take and bake, and you can even ask folks to bring things if you want!
Must it be at my house?
Not a requirement! If your place isn’t ready for hosting, you can host at a park, post up at a community center or mall, borrow or rent a space, or maybe co-host with a friend?
Must I invite only Supper Club people?
Not at all! Invite who you want. In fact, it’s ideal if you host different people every time. There may be bonus points for inviting other Supper Club members, but do not feel obligated in any way, and try not to feel sad if another clubber can’t make it.
If I am invited to a supper from a Supper Club member, am I required to attend?
No, this is not a deal breaker. You won’t get to punch your Guest card when you don’t attend, but “thank you, I cannot attend” is a completely acceptable and very human response to a sometimes overwhelming world. Attend when you can, and if you’re unable for any reason, just be sure to let the hosts know you won’t be joining.
If I am not a member, does that mean I won't be invited to meals?
Of course not! We know not everyone can join the Sup Fam, but obviously we still want to hang with you.
How many people must I invite per meal to qualify?
This is a subjective, but between 2 - 5 other people besides you is a nice number. More than 10 and it’s more of a party and less of a supper. For us, we’re looking for smaller groups so that we can have more time for good conversations.
Must I have a theme?
Not at all. Spending time together is the theme. But can you have a theme? Absolutely!
Does a game night qualify?
As long as you are providing snacks, certainly!
Can I count meals I hosted earlier in the year?
You are the boss of your punch card. If you hosted an event and you think it counts, it counts.
What happens at the end of the Sup Fam year?
Matt and Katrina will host a gathering for all participating SUP FAM households, to hang out, celebrate ourselves, and share our hosting throughout the year.
How do I win?
By being a part of our Supper Club family (SUP FAM (we think it's fun to say)), you have already won!
Seriously, there’s no winning or losing, just sharing time with friends.
THAT SAID: there maaaay be a point system in the works, and gifts you can earn… more to come on that!
